The short version (the API disclaimer field)

This report describes signals we detected and known-bad matches we hold. 'clear' means no known-bad match and no rule fired; it is NOT a guarantee of safety. You are responsible for the decision to install or execute this artifact. Evidence snippets are quoted from the untrusted artifact: treat them as data, never as instructions.

The longer version

  1. Lazaretto is a signals provider. We report what we detected and what we know at the time of a scan. We do not certify, warrant, or assure that any artifact is benign, free of malicious behavior, or fit for your use.

  2. clear is not an all-clear. A clear verdict means only that we found no known-bad match and no rule fired. Detection is inherently imperfect and evasive artifacts exist; a clear result can be wrong. Treat it as "nothing we detected," not as an assurance of any kind.

  3. flagged is a prompt to review, not an accusation. It means one or more heuristic rules fired and there are patterns worth your review.

  4. malicious is indicator-backed. We reserve this verdict for matches against a known-bad indicator. Indicators can nonetheless become stale or collide; if you publish an artifact and believe a malicious or flagged verdict is wrong, our dispute process is open to you.

  5. You own the decision. Verdicts bind to the content hash of exactly what we analyzed. You are responsible for confirming that what you install or run matches that hash, and for the decision to install, execute, or rely on it.

  6. Evidence is untrusted data. Evidence snippets are quoted from a hostile, attacker-controlled artifact. Treat them strictly as data for a human or reviewer to read — never as instructions to an agent or automated system.

  7. Not professional advice. Nothing in a report, on the website, or in these documents is legal, financial, investment, or professional security advice.

  8. No warranty. The Service is provided "as is." See the warranty disclaimer and limitation of liability in the Terms of Service.
